End of Season

Well it looks like the end of the season. Good year on Pinks and Kings, slow on chums and silvers. Time to put the "Pathfinder" to sleep for the winter and wake her up again next April. Hope I get a chance on the winter King fishery in the Puget Sound, for some reason BigDogs like big Kings.

Pinky Season

Well I've been a little busy with Pink salmon season. Haven't had a lot of time for the blogosphere. Fishing has been outstanding, with most anglers having more than twelve chances per four hours fishing time to catch thier limit of six. Still catching a King every now and then as a bonus. A friend who went a little further from town the other day said a push of silvers were headed our way. The seasons not over yet, there is still time to get in on the fun. So don't procrastinate and get fishing.

Took a couple of friends for giggles yesterday evening. Caught two really nice kings, four jack kings, three silvers and missed at least four good hits in two plus hours of fishing time. Tried trolling deep for a few flatties with no luck, caught some deep a few days ago while fishing deep for kings. Looks like the silvers and pinks are starting to show pretty good. Looks like a nice mix of fish with some pretty hot action.

Been busy with the Kings.

Fishings been fair to good. Not the best year, but the size and quality of the fish has been outstanding this year. We fish some hatchery runs combined with migrating wild fish here in Ketchikan. As with most hatchery runs thier will be some small jack males, but this year the average size per fish in this run is a little larger. most years a fifteen to twentytwo pound range is the norm. This year most of the fish are over twenty and twenyfive pounds.
Just last week a fresh batch of bright ones shoed up, most of them females I believe. One evening fishing by myself I had two and lost one with another two stripping my baits while missing the hooks in two short hours. Morning bites have been fair with the after noon bite being a much better. The Killer Whales have been leaving us alone pretty much also, so that is helping.
The Pink Salmon and Silvers are starting to show. The next few weeks could be awesome fishing on a fruit salad of salmon, catching four out of the five that migrate through SE Alaska with the Chums showing any time now joining the other soecies we have available at this time.

King salmon fishing is just starting to heat up. Nice bright chromers showing in icreasing numbers and sizes.
